Trout Unlimited’s annual Telluride fundraiser, Trout-a-palooza.
The event is Thursday, July 23rd, at the Ski Plaza Lounge in the Mountain Village Core.
Tickets cost $50 and are available now at Telluride Outside.
Here is the schedule:
Beginner’s casting clinic at 4:00 pm. Learn to fly cast with me, John Duncan.
Our advanced casting clinic will start at 5:00 pm, focusing on the all-powerful double haul.
This will be followed at 6:00 by cocktails & food at in the Ski Plaza Lounge.
The live auction starts at 7:00 pm, followed by a 45 minute slide show on fly fishing in Patagonia, presented by John Duncan.
This year’s event is an expanded format from previous years, with afternoon casting clinics for both beginning and experienced anglers, an auction with all kinds of cool fly fishing gear and trips, plenty of food, beer and wine, and a slide show on fly fishing in Argentina.
Most importantly, the event will raise money to rehabilitate the watershed on Telluride’s Valley Floor. The Valley Floor is a treasure of regional and even national significance, but the rivercourse itself has been heavily affected by man over the decades, channelized, devegitated, diverted and scoured. Trout Unlimited has endorsed a plan, sanctioned by the Town of Telluride and the Colorado Division of Wildlife, to rehabilitate the riparian habitat by liberating the river from its channel, replanting native flora, and reintroducing the most beautiful fish in the Rockies: the Colorado River Cutthroat.
Our TU Chapter, Gunnison Gorge Anglers, is headed by tireless conservationist Marshall Pendergrass, aided by strong chapter members here in Telluride. With the modest fistful of dollars raised at this event in past years, GGA has made some of the greatest conservation achievements in Colorado, earning national recognition and awards. Now it’s time to support the fishing cause closest to our home: restoring the trout habitat on our beloved Valley Floor.

Fishermen and women, we will see you on Thursday.
