Hot fishing on the Uncompahgre

By admin - Posted on 03 December 2010

Fishing at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk on the Uncompahgre was really good last weekend.  I guided two anglers at the park on Saturday and we had all kinds of action -- rainbows eating small nymphs all day long, fish rising to midges in the afternoon, big spawning browns chasing the smaller rainbows -- it was an action-packed day.  Micro nymphs were the most consistent.  We primarily used the Mayhem, Winker Midge, Zebra Midge and Cheeseman Emergers.  Egg patterns were deadly, too.  We switched to dries for a while in the afternoon and caught four fish off the surface.  We also fished a streamer for a while, but tried to steer away from the browns that were obviously spawning.  We landed one fish on a streamer, but it was our least effective method.  All-in-all, a stellar day.
